ALOHA SURF GUIDE

On behalf of the people of Hawai'i, I send my personal greetings of aloha to the readers of Aloha Surf Guide.  Hawai'i is the birthplace of surfing, and I am delighted to have the opportunity to introduce you to our islands through this exhilarating sport.

In 1998, the Hawai'i State Legislature adopted Act 174, which established surfing as our state's official individual sport.  Surfing is a tradition in Hawai'i and is thought of as a lifestyle.  The sport of surfing is an important part of our local culture.

Many consider out islands to have some of the best surfing spots in the world, which cater to beginners, experts and everyone in between.  Enjoy this guide as your introduction to surfing in Hawai'i.

Please remember that ocean and water safety is a top concern in the islands and both lifeguards and long-time surfers recommend that you work with a professional instructor if you are surfing for the first time.

Best wishes, have fun and enjoy our world-famous surf!

                                           Aloha,

                                           Linda Lingle
                                           Governor, State of Hawai'i

The Official Surf Guide of Hawaii

Surfing is a thrilling sport, and can be very dangerous.
The ocean is unforgiving and her power can be very deceptive.
Safety is the highest concern.
Aloha Surf Guide is information and guidelines to help get you started.
We recommend all beginners hire an experienced
and professional surf instructor,
talk to a lifeguard before you surf,
and please do not surf alone!
